Pay child good grades?
I just read a book about Chinese mother Amy Chua children for your reply, I am very curious to know how you want to pay for their children’s achievements. When paying work best? Is it best to pay as a last resort? There is no one better cope with some children?
As I mentioned in the column, Amy Chua children does not solve the problem in her book level pay. But if I read correctly between the lines, I would say, no Chinese mother worthy of the name would be caught dead paying her child grade. She did not expect anything less than the A – and her children will have.
I have to say I agree with Tsai this one – not necessarily every child should be expected to get an A, but every child should try at least one, and he or she should not pay efforts.
This position gets me into hot water a lot of people who think that getting good grades is the child’s work, like any job, it is worth compensation.
The way I see it, is not so much to go to school, salary requirements, because it works the role of a child in the family. This is my job, as a mother of a meal plan for my family, but I do not expect to get paid.
It seems to me that learning is a hallmark of natural growth and development of children. We do not pay our children to master skills such as tying their shoes or ride a bicycle, we should also learn to read to them. In addition, performance in school can be affected by many other things – in which the basis of the child’s intelligence, personality traits, family ENVIRON replacement and learning styles.
And then there are some very practical concerns. If you go to the “Moonlight” route, you have to keep upping the ante – Once a child is old enough to earn their own money, you lose leverage. Some children just do not for the money, some are self-motivated. In both cases, you will waste your cash.
A hot spot. I do not agree with a lot of families. I recently generated a lot of discussion in the subject comes to financial education sponsored by the University of Maryland conference, and rating. One mother said she often pay for her sixth-grade students a A $ 6 each and 95- plus a major test scores each. The system works so well, she intends to continue her daughter put it to high school, to pay A $ 12 per share in Year 12.
Another woman chimed in, when she was 13-year-old nephew came to live with her family, she did not offer to pay grade, but she wanted him to learn, and held his high standards of conduct. He told her that he appreciated the consistency that has been missing from his life.
In a major study, the concept of Harvard professor Roland Fryer small test scores and four city school systems, the desired behavior payments – Dallas, Chicago, Washington DC and New York City – with mixed results. The study found that performance pay “output” – such as grades or test scores – did not work, probably because students no clear idea how to control the output. This experiment in improving test S is more successful by rewarding the child’s “investment”, they can control, such as reading, wearing uniforms, turned in core operations.
Reward of this work. If the rewards can be effective in some cases, the parents how to adapt to these results your own home? For starters, they might reward effort and behavior, not the result itself. It also seems to work the best paid in the case of clear expectations and immediate return well-defined – and, I would add, parental involvement.
In fact, I know a big backer of good results – or a concerted effort – by giving your child a hug, a word of encouragement or spontaneous treat, such as their favorite restaurant. Pat on the back helps to strengthen personal satisfaction comes with a job well done. And, in the end, that’s what it’s all about.
